I am starting with this as its my husband’s favorite.
Its the simplest and quick recipe i know. Can be prepared within 15 mins.
1) small cup tur dal/red gram dal/mug dal. etc ( depends on people which dal they like and what quatity to make.)
2) 1/2 – 2 cups chopped palak. ( again it depends on how much palak we like, north Indian’s like smooth dal while andra side like it thick gravy type. so as per taste bud take the quantity of palak.)
3) 1 onion, chopped
4) 2 tomato, paste (optional – tamarind 1 spoon can be added or 1/2 cup curd can be added or tomato can be added to make it khatta. but curd is the best as it doesnt cause any acidity. with tamarind chances of acidity are more and its not healthy to have tamarind frequently. tomato is a good option but again it wont be that super khatta )
5) big pinch turmeric pwd
6) 2-3 green chillis, slit lengthwise
7) 1/2 tsp chopped ginger
8) salt to taste
9) 2 cups water
1 tsp mustard seeds
3-4 garlic cloves, crushed
2 dry red chillis tear
10-12 fresh curry leaves
1 tsps oil.
In a pressure cooker, place dal, palak leaves, onions, tomatoes, green chillis, ginger and turmeric powder, salt. Add 2 cups of water and pressure cook upto 2 whistles. If cooking over stove top, cook till the dal is almost cooked.
2 Heat oil in a heavy bottomed vessel, add mustards seeds and as they jump around, add cumin seeds, garlic, red chillis and curry leaves and stir fry for a few seconds.
3 Add this to the pressure cooked dal and combine. Cook on slow to medium flame for a minute till you get the consistency of our choice.
4 Serve with rice, wheat khichdi. roti , break etc.
