To those who haven’t done it before, train travel can seem slow and inconvenient. Passenger trains don’t always arrive on time and it can take days to cover the same distance you can fly in only a few hours.
But train travel doesn’t have to be boring, and you can use the slow pace to your advantage. Plan ahead and adopt the right attitude and you can make train travel more fun.
For me train journeys are always fun, peaceful and some time to myself. Usually i like to travel alone as i can be with myself and enjoy the journey. i carry with me home made snacks, books, fruits and water. I usualy use the train trip as an opportunity to do things i don’t ordinarily do, such as reading a novel, magazine, look at nature, see the cities, vilages that pass by or taking an afternoon nap.
I usually make friends in train and the slower pace of train travel invites conversation. You can make new friends and learn people’s stories. this time i met mukta. She is a dare devil, a butterfly, risk taker , adventure freak like me. we clicked a lot of pictures by looking out of the train and another one clicking from the other coach of the train. equally dangerous but total fun. worth it.
I talk to the train staff. Don’t interrupt their work, but if they seem open to conversation, ask them about their work and life on the train. Train employees get a unique perspective as they travel across the country and many of them also have interesting stories to tell.
I get off the train at stations a few minutes’ stop gives you a chance to stretch your legs and glimpse a bit of a different town.
More over i enjoy the view out your window. Wave to children at train crossings and they wave back. Watch for wildlife in remote areas. Take photographs and create my own wall of memory with it . A train takes me away from highways to areas i had never see otherwise.
