Quick Sambar Recipe

Quick Sambar Recipe: I eat sambar everyday with idli/ dosa/ rice/ paddu, etc. Sambar is a easy way to eat vegetables and Dals together. PREP TIME: 5 min COOK TIME: 35 min TOTAL TIME: 40 min RECIPE TYPE: Gravy/Stew

Ingredients:
1/2 cup Split Pigeon Peas(Toor dhal)
1/4 tsp Turmeric powder
1/4 tsp Cumin seeds (Jeera)
1/4 + 1/8 tsp Asafoetida (Hing)
1/4 tsp. Fenugreek seeds (Methi seeds)
3 sprig, Curry leaves
2 + 1 ½ + ½ cup Water
2 Red onion
2 Tomato, chopped, 1 Green Chili

20 – 25 gms White pumkin

20- 25 gms Carrots

1 medium Potato

4 to 5 ladies finger

1/2 tbsp. Red Chili Powder
1 tsp. Salt (Adjust to taste)
2 tsp Kokum paste]
2 tsp Oil
1/4 tsp Black Mustard seeds
1/8 tsp Fennel seeds
2 tbsp chopped fresh Cilantro

  • Boil the dal with all the vegetables and dal for 20 minutes.  Add turmeric, salt, kokum paste and red chilli powder and pressure boil in pressure cooker. Keep some of the chopped onions, tomato, curry patta, green chillies aside for tempering the sambar

  • For tempering, take 2 spoon oil add  Jeera, Asafoetida,Fenugreek seeds,3 Curry leaves, Green chilli. Wait for them to splutter completely. Add chopped onion, ginger, garlic, tomato to it.

Quickly toss the samber in to the tempering. Stir the sambar. Change flame to LOW. Let it simmer for 5 minutes. Switch off flame and close the sambar.
